 Nantucket Film Festival - Producers

The Nantucket Film Festival, over a decade old, has become the preeminent film industry event dedicated to celebrating the role of the writer in film. The Festival features over 50 movie screenings, staged readings of unproduced screenplays, panel discussions with industry leaders, a tribute to an accomplished screenwriter and networking events. ACKtivities  has produced the Festival since 2001 and is responsible for coordinating the efforts of over 25 staff members, 250 volunteers, numerous vendors and a tight budget. Over 7,000 visitors travel to Nantucket just for the Festival and even more get to enjoy our many events.

Nantucket Cottage Hospital – Special Events Consultant

ACKtivities acts as an on-going events consultant to the island’s only hospital. The hospital is extremely involved in the local community and through their events they raise awareness of hospital services and fund raise. The largest event is the annual Pops on Nantucket concert held in August. For this event, we assist with the management of over 600 volunteers and more than 40 vendors. Over 8,000 people attend this community event, which raises a significant amount of funds for the hospital.

Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce - Special Events Coordinator

We work with the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, assisting them with special projects from organizing the Stroll Food Tent to implementing a Nantucket Visitor survey.

Nantucket Air Show 2004, 2006: Producers

In 2004 the Airport Commission hired ACKtivities to produce the Nantucket Air Show, featuring the US Navy's Blue Angels. The show was to be the first Air Show on Nantucket since the 30's and the first and probably last time Nantucket would have the opportunity to host such an elite flying team.

Commander Russell J. Bartlett, the leader of team in 2004, spent the majority of his childhood on Nantucket and was instrumental in bringing the Blue Angels to the small island. He was quoted as saying, "It's going to be an absolute treat for me to lead the Blue Angels flight demonstration over Nantucket. The island is one of my favorite places in the whole world, and after being in the Navy for 21 years, I've been lucky enough to see a lot of it."

Unfortunately, hurricane Ivan thwarted our efforts, destroyed the Pensacola base of the Blue Angels and sent them home early to care for their families.

The good news is that they are coming back in 2006 to "complete the mission." The show celebrates the history of the last 75 years of flight, highlighted by the Blue Angels and showcasing other earlier military aircraft in flybys. There are static displays of airplanes from the 1930's to the present, including performances by military demonstration teams.

As producers, ACKtivities is responsible for all logistical aspects of the show on site including vendor management, show set up and break down, performer accommodations, special gala events and volunteer supervision.

Circus Flora
Nantucket Atheneum

Circus Flora, a one-ring, European style circus, has been a sold-out success on Nantucket for the past two years. This entertaining, cultural fund raiser for the Atheneum has thrilled both children and adults alike. Acts featured in the two hour performance include the daredevil trick Osetian horse riders, the exotic Flying Pages trapeze act, the breathtaking Flying Wallendas and the lovable Olates stunt dogs. The acts are performed to original music composed and performed by the live Circus Flora Band.

Although, the Nantucket Atheneum is the islands free public library it only receives 41% of its annual budget from the Town. Due to this, the Atheneum must look to private donors and special events to raise the remaining funds necessary to maintain their essential library services. Circus Flora has been the answer to raising these funds.

Big Brothers Big Sisters – Operations
Iron Teams Relay Race

A unique six leg, multi-sport race that benefits the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nantucket Organization and a kick-start to the Summer season on Nantucket, the Iron Teams Race retains a competitive spirit while remaining one of the more exciting and fun events of the year. Beginning with a short run and finishing at the infamous Chicken Box, ACKtivities handles and over-sees course set-up and breakdown, marine assistance for all water legs, timing, communication through-out the course, transportation for all gear and leg change equipment, traffic details, volunteers, sponsorship, rentals, prizes and the after-party barbecue.

The Jetties Restaurant

Whether a small, intimate gathering or a larger celebration, we will work with you to create an event beyond your expectations. The Jetties is available for rent by private groups from mid May through October, including catering, tent rental, bar service, and in incomparabel view of Nantucket Sound.
